Maintenance work to last for year on Stow Road in Hudson
HUDSON: Motorists who use Stow Road on a regular basis might want to consider another route for a while.Akron this week began maintenance work on its waterline between state Route 303 and Ravenna Street, with repairs expected to continue for the next five months.Northbound and southbound traffic will alternate using the single lane that remains open.Contractor Liberta Construction of Akron will work Monday through Saturday until about June 1. In the meantime, the suggested alternative route is state Route 91 or state Route 8.Drivers will catch a break over the summer, but the orange cones will return in the fall as Hudson and the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study embark on a $1.3 million effort to excavate and resurface the 2.5-mile road while adding 4-foot bike lanes on both sides of the street. The work that Akron is doing now involves replacing bolts on 293 deteriorated joints on its water pipe, said Jim Hewitt of Akron’s water department.Paula Schleis can be reached at 330-996-3741 or pschleis@thebeaconjournal.com.
